Did MOZART
really write the
'CAT DUET'?

This copy
of the score
clinched
it!
In 1991, Russia returned to Germany a collection of manuscripts which the Soviet Army had taken away at the end of World War II. In 1996, University of Northern Iowa musicologist David Buch discovered among these manuscripts (which have since been kept in the archives of the City and University Library of Hamburg) a score of the opera Der Stein der Weisen. What set this apart from the two other extant copies of the opera is a notation on the upper corner of a page that identifies the composer of most every segment of the work, such as that shown above for a scene in the Act 2 Finale which read: von Mozart. Thus were the attributions to the specific composers made.
