FanFaire
celebrates the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival with a GIVEAWAY
of 20 CDs of chamber music for wind instruments by WOLFGANG AMADEUS
MOZART,
performed and recorded live by ensembles of Festival artists in August
2005 and August 2006 at Santa Fe's historic Lensic Theatre.
The CD starts off with Mozart's delightfully sublime masterpiece
for wind band known as "Serenade for 13 Wind Instruments"
(also called the "Gran Partita") conducted by ALAN GILBERT
(recently appointed MUSIC DIRECTOR of the NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC).
This is followed by two relatively brief but nonetheless masterful
Adagios
that Mozart presumably composed primarily for the clarinet-like instrument
known as the bassett horn. The final piece is Mozart's light yet other-worldly
12-minute chamber masterpiece, his last, composed for a wind and string
quartet AND glass harmonica, traded in this recording for an equally
effective keyboard glockenspiel.
