A week of intense music-making with acclaimed conductor and master of the violin [Mar 29-Apr 7, 2011]


JOSEPH SILVERSTEIN,
former music director of the Utah Symphony and concertmaster and assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony for more than two decades, comes to the USC THORNTON SCHOOL OF MUSIC for an intense week of music making that includes: MASTERCLASSES and LECTURES on the art of the violin, violin orchestral excerpts, chamber music, and the baroque bow technique; a PANEL DISCUSSION on the Art and Life of a Concertmaster; and CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERTS.


ALL events are FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC, except for the USC Thornton Chamber Orchestra concert, which is free to USC students, faculty and staff only. General Admission Tickets: $12 & $18

FanFaire Foundation's "ADVENTURES in SCIENCE & MUSIC" concert series with the GREATER SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA directed by Dr. ANGELA YEUNG continues with a science-themed music Program that includes Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor by ALEXANDER BORODIN, the great Russian composer who was also a renowned Professor of Organic Chemistry), JOSEPH HAYDN's, "Clock" Symphony, BRIAN BALMAGES' Petite Symphony: Elements (Air, Water, Earth, Fire) and OTTORINO RESPIGHI's Ancient Airs and Dances.

The orchestra is composed of experienced amateur musicians many of whom have separate science-based careers.

FREE FAMILY CONCERT featuring kids who love MATH and MUSIC...

FanFaire Foundation presents the 2011 winners of the Music Teachers Association of California (San Diego Branch) Concerto Competition in concert with the GREATER SAN GREATER SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA directed by Dr. ANGELA YEUNG.
 


WHEN: Friday April 8, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday April 10, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.
WHERE: J. Crivello Hall - Francis Parker School
             6501 Linda Vista Road
             San Diego, CA

10-year old MICHAEL CHEN (left) and 13-year old ADRIAN LIU (right) will play the 3rd movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 and the 1st movement of  Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20, respectively, in their first performance with an orchestra.   Mozart's Symphony No. 41 "Jupiter" rounds out the program.

It is interesting to note that both young winners profess to love MATH and MUSIC.

The concert is co-presented with the Greater San Diego Music Coterie.
