LIVE in ITALY with CECILIA BARTOLI
also featuring the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca
London Classics - #455981
These two superstars of classical music share equal billing in this recording, in which Cecilia is accompanied in the first part by the string ensemble Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca. Here Cecilia sings songs and arias by Caccini, Handel, Mozart, Bellini, Bizet and Donizetti, among others - selections that for the most part are staples in her recital repertory of 18th century music.

As mentioned elsewhere on these pages, Jean-Yves is unique among concert pianists in his professed love for the human voice, which he indulges by frequently accompanying singers on the recital stage; Cecilia is among his favorites. The chemistry between these two great artists is obvious in the video clips shown below. The inclusion of the Séguedille from Bizet’s Carmen comes as a pleasant surprise. One wonders - was she testing the air waves then for this prized mezzo-soprano role?*
VIDEO CLIPS:
“Voi che sapete” from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro
“Seguidille” from Bizet’s Carmen
Note: Cecilia Bartoli made a surprise guest appearance at the Richard Tucker Gala on November 8, 2024 which was broadcast on PBS during the 1998 holiday season.
* Cecilia Bartoli has become one of the foremost exponents and interpreters of the baroque and rare bel canto repertoire and to date has not performed Carmen on the operatic stage.
