Silva Classics
- #6033
One can tell from the CD cover that the group isn't your usual quartet.
And indeed it's not - the members are true 'multi-taskers': having
chosen not to be wedded to one classical instrument, they play multiple
classical instruments - violin, cello, mandolin, English horn, guitar,
accordion, and (surprise!) the tenor voice. They pride themselves
in bringing a fresh approach to classical music. And rightly so.
They obviously have as much fun doing it as you will listening to
their kind of music - this one comes steeped in the flavors of Italy,
yes, even Dvorak's Four Bagatelles!

FOR
THE STARS: Anne Sofie von Otter meets Elvis Costello
Uni/Deutsche Grammophon 289 469 530-2
This is what happens when a pop idol/ songwriter/singer named Elvis
idolizes an opera singer named Anne Sofie. When they finally meet,
both "reach for the stars." Could there be a more perfect
cross-over? The Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter brings
to the words and music of Elvis Costello and other pop musicmakers
her creamy voice and all the virtues of a great opera singer - yet
never for even a half-note does pop begin to sound like opera!

OPERATICA,
Vol.1. Maurren
O'Flynn / Lord Vanger
emagine entertainment
When a bel canto soprano (Maureen O'Flynn) links up with a Lord
of electronic music (Lord Vanger), they set up a unique equation:
"opera
+ electronica = OPERATICA"
and the beginnings of a new musical genre. Opposites do attract!
And the result is music for humming, clubbing, dancing, and hip-hopping.
