... beloved
Valkyrie, goddess - warrior of Norse mythology, first appears
in DIE WALKÜRE where as punishment for her
disobedience, her father Wotan puts her to sleep for years on
end, on a rock protected by a ring of fire.
Of Hildegard
Behrens as Brünnhilde:
"...with her slender figure and tremendous voice - a wonderful
Walküre." -Wiener Zeitung
"...brings fresh insight... long passages of luminously beautiful
singing..." -The Times
"...simply stunning - an impetuous angel with a voice to
match." Evening Mail, London
"... the legitimate heir to the greatest Wagnerians of the
century." -La Nacion, Buenos Aires

DER
RING DES NIBELUNGEN (The
Ring of the Nibelung)
RICHARD
WAGNER's great tetralogy, his Gesamtkunstwerk
(or total work of art): Das Rheingold
(which tells about the gold of the Rhine, Wotan - the Lord of Valhalla,
Alberich - the Nibelung and how he came to curse the Ring), Die
Walküre, Siegfried,
and Götterdämmerung. It
is a powerful allegory of the human condition, imbued by Wagner
with a multitude of dramatic and musical symbolisms.
Die Walküre tells about Wotan and the
gods of Valhalla, how Brünnhilde, his favorite among his daughers/goddess-warriors
(Valkyries), came to know about love, and how the hero Siegfried
came to be.
