Brenda Murphy received her PhD in Education and Arts Professions from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education. She also holds the MSEd TESOL from Shenandoah University, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music theory from Manhattan School of Music in New York. Before co-founding Shenandoah University’s online TESOL program in 1999, Dr. Murphy taught English in Japan for over 16 years. In addition, since 2005 Dr. Murphy has spent 18 months living in Italy acquiring Italian language. Her interests are varied: language and culture, second language acquisition, online education, fitness, and synesthetic aspects of the arts. In addition to her current activities, Dr. Murphy is also a master of the Japanese art of Tea, Chanoyu.
