In
this segment of the interview, SALVATORE LICITRA whose repertoire encompasses
mostly works by Verdi and Puccini stresses the importance of being FAITHFUL
TO THE SCORE as written by the composer, illustrating his case with
examples from his own experience and observations. Such fidelity requires
that a singer's voice be suitable to his/her repertoire. His dictum:
the right voice with the right repertoire. Anything less (or more, for
that matter) is fake and cheats audiences, depriving them of the musical
authenticity that they paid to hear.
