Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Don Giovanni
conductor: Gabriel Chmura
direction, choreography, set & light designs: Pippo Delbono
In Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, elements of light comedy intertwine with fragments full of dramatic tension and terror. Owing to the excellent libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte, referring to Moliere’s Don Juan, and Mozart’s wonderful music constructing the psychological portraits of the characters, the work has lived to see countless productions worldwide, with theater auditoriums filled to capacity.
The story of Don Giovanni – a libertine seducing and dumping one woman after another, who finally gets the punishment he deserves – will be directed by one of the greatest theater directors of today, whose work is highly regarded throughout Europe – Pippo Delbono. In the early 80’s of the 20th century, the Italian artist, who worked, among others, with Pina Bausch, founded his theater company, with which he developed a distinctive language of performance. Their performances, appealing to the audience’s emotions, leave no-one indifferent. On request of the Grand Theater, the director, well-known to Polish theater-lovers, will stage his version of Mozart’s opera for the first time. Maestro Gabriel Chmura, Artistic Director of the Poznań Opera House, one of the greatest symphonic and opera conductors in Poland, will act as Music Director. The cast includes, among others: Sokolin Asllani, Adam Pałka, Wojciech Śmiłek, Iwona Hossa.
The premiere will take place on March 22, 2014 at 7:00 P.M.
Subsequent performances: March 23 and 25, June 6, 8, and 10, 2014.
