Joshua Bell, violinist
born 1967- Bloomington, Indiana;
received his first violin at age 5; at 14 debuted with the Philadephia Orchestra, becoming a musical sensation; a prolific recording artist, he tours extensively throughout the US and Europe performing in recital or in concert with the world’s great orchestras; has premiered works written for him; like Jean-Yves, a child prodigy-become-celebrated-artist.
Thibaudet and Bell have made a number of outstanding recordings together (see sidebar).
Truls Mork, cellist
born 1961- Bergen, Norway;
first learned the cello from his father; studied inSweden, Austria and Moscow; first Scandinavian to win Tchaikovsky Competition; winner of many prizes, awards and grants, eg, from Sonning Music Foundation; performs with the Oslo Philharmonic and major orchestras; founded International Chamber Music Festival in Stavanger.
He has made several acclaimed recital recordings with Jean-Yves (see sidebar).
