The Chopin Touch - With Jean-Yves Thibaudet

A great composer explored and celebrated by a modern-day virtuoso. Jean-Yves Thibaudet plays the music of Frédéric Chopin on Chopin’s own restored Broadwood piano which is now part of the National Trust’s Cobbe Collection in Hatchlands Park in Surrey, England.

Jean-Yves talks about his own background in the French tradition and the lifelong process of reinventing music for a contemporary generation. He also goes to locations in Paris where Chopin lived, worked and died. The music is recorded in the elegant surroundings of the Music Room at Hatchlands Park. The programme features many of Chopin’s most famous and greatest pieces from the Raindrop Prelude to the Revolutionary Étude.

Jean-Yves Thibaudet was born in Lyon in 1961 and began to play the piano at the age of five, making his first public appearance aged seven. At twelve he graduated from the Lyon Conservatoire under Lucille Descaves and Aldo Ciccolini.
