for singing,
in Sydney,
1926
...in
1949 - gave up her secretarial job for a singing career; 1949/1950
- won Sun Aria and other competitions; shared Celebrity Concert stage
with young pianist Bonynge; 1951 - gave a Farewell Concert and
made her first operatic appearance in the title role of Edward Goossen's
opera Judith; sailed for London, sang at Covent Garden, and the
rest, as they say, is
HISTORY
...in
1948 - won the A.M.E.B. Scholarship for best young pianist in Commonwealth;
1950 - gave a Farewell Concert, sailed for London on a scholarship
to the Royal College of Music; 1951- became official Sutherland coach
and accompanist; 1963 - made formal conducting debut in Vancouver; today
reigns as the
MASTER OF BEL CANTO
