...and
if you've never listened to chamber music before, then let this be
your first chamber music CD. It's a wonderful introduction to the
genre - the quartet members play with mastery, and with unmistakable
joy and devotion to their music. Play the first track and you'll soon
realize that chamber music, while "serious," is far from
being intimidating and boring - indeed Glazunov
(Russian, 1865-1936) invites you to sway with his music or even dance
to it.
Play on...
...and be taken backward in time, first to Smetana
(Czech, 1824-84) and a rhapsodic movement from the most autobiographic
of his three chamber works, before being introduced to the classic
sounds of Beethoven
(a lively allegro) and Mozart
(a sweet andante) - excerpts from their innumerable chamber pieces.
Then, be propelled back to the 20th century and be seduced by Piazzolla's
(Argentine, 1921-92) sophisticated tango ballet - tango cliché?
NOT!

MOZART
Andante from Quartet K575
PIAZZOLLA
Tango Ballet
Having
shown that Mozart and Piazzolla can blissfully coexist on
the same CD, the Rossetti String Quartet convincingly makes
the case for chamber music - it is rich, evocative, introspective,
soothing, uplifting - in other words, so multifaceted and
oh, so enjoyable!
