Richard Margison's repertoire ranges from B to V (Beethoven - or Bellini or Bizet - to Verdi, or bel canto to verismo, if you will). Not to be ignored among the letters of the alphabet are G - as in Gounod, L - as in Leoncavallo, M - as in Massenet and Mozart, S - as in Strauss.... But P - as in Puccini - is the letter that stands out as prominently as V - as in Verdi, which goes to show that it is his assumption of the heroic tenor roles that have marked Margison's steady ascent to the peak of the operatic world.

In this CD of arias culled from Verdi's dramatic operas, the Canadian tenor shows that he is indeed one of the few that today can very comfortably fill the heroic (or spinto) tenor's shoes. The selections include arias sung by the Verdian heroes he has performed to acclaim in the world's major opera houses - Foresto in Attila, Ernani, Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera, Don Carlo, Manrico in Il trovatore. Margison's instrument is brassy and forceful, the tone is sweet, the top soars, and the impeccable, effortless high Cs resonate. This rock-n-roller-turned spinto tenor makes Verdi rock!
