About Susan Graham: Born in Roswell, New Mexico; studied at the Manhattan School of Music and Texas Tech University. She has sung many of opera's famous mezzo-soprano roles at the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scalla, l'Opera Bastille and other major opera houses. She is also a favorite at the Salzburg Festival. Her interpretation of Berlioz' Les Nuits d'Ete is highly acclaimed. Click HERE for a list of her other recordings.

About Reynaldo Hahn: Composer and writer - born 1875 (Caracas, Venezuela), died 1947 (Paris). As a young man of 20, he visited Paris and lived there for the rest of his life. He was an intimate friend of Marcel Proust, a classmate of Maurice Ravel, a friend of Sarah Bernhardt and Gabriel Faure, and a student of Massenet. He composed not only beautiful songs like the ones on this album but also concertos, operetta (including one on the life of Mozart) and serious opera. His other musical activities included conducting Mozart at the Salzburg Festival and serving as a director of the Paris Opera. He was also the author of several books and a lecturer - his lectures Du Chant which he delivered in 1913-14 have been compiled and published as a book entitled On Singers and Singing. Clearly, an interesting man who lived a very interesting life, whose music deserves to be better known. And clearly, Susan Graham's beautiful singing is a step in this direction.
