In this, her first solo album, the young Chilean soprano Cristina Gallardo-Domâs unveils the canvas of her career showing the listener, as she displays the palette of her colors, where she has been and where she would likely take her art in the years to come. The cue one takes from the CD (of arias from the operas of Cilea - Adriana Lecouvreur, Donizetti - Anna Bolena, Catalani - La Wally, Bellini - I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Verdi - La Traviata, and Puccini - Madama Butterfly, La bohème, Manon Lescaut, Suor Angelica, Gianni Schichi) is: Italianate, lirico spinto with splashes of bel canto and broad brushstrokes of verismo.

Purists seeking perfection may not find it in a first solo album, but then perfection is not a necessary prerequisite to listening enjoyment. There's quite a bit here to please the ear, and to convince that this much acclaimed soprano is an immensely talented singer who as she unleashes a beautiful voice with abandon paints a picture of a career that is headed for the stars.
