OPERATICA
|
|
Noted
American soprano MAUREEN O'FLYNN, takes
her coloratura clubbing and hip hopping - and hopes that young audiences
will sooner or later go crazy for opera!
Or you could look at this recording as the Hegelian dialectic operating
in music -- the synthesis of diametrically opposed musical styles
- bel canto and hip hop, Gluck and rock, opera and electronic
- into a possibly new genre, which you could call OPERATICA.
Ms. O'Flynn's soprano is as pristine amid producer Lord Vanger's
electronic harmonies and musical eclecticism as it is in her signature
"Caro nome,"* and their combined synergies
surely will give the avid hip/trip-hopper every reason to become
curious about opera and the hard-nosed purist to become tolerant,
if not appreciative, of musical hybridizations/explorations such
as can be heard on this unconventional crossover CD.
* Gilda's aria in Verdi's Rigoletto - Maureen O'Flynn knocks the socks
off anyone who hears her sing it. |
