Emalie Savoy Wins 2015 ARD Competition

emali-savoy-munichEmalie Savoy, 2012 awardee, has won the much coveted First Prize of the 64th ARD Singing Competition, Germany’s most prestigious, held from August 31 to September 18, 2015. The distinguished jury included the noted dramatic sopranos Anja Silja and Gabrielle Schnaut, as well as Bach/Mozart specialist Helen Donath who best described Emalie’s moment of triumph: “Sie schmiss ihre Wellenlängen heraus und hat uns umarmt mit dieser grandiosen Stimme!” [Translation: “She flung her wavelengths and embraced us with this magnificent voice!”]

Emalie sang her winning best at the historic Prinzregententheater in Munich which reopened in 1996 with Hildegard Behrens’ performance as Isolde in August Everding’s production of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and her final ARD Winners’ Concert at the equally historic Herkulessaal where in 1981, the legendary American conductor Leonard Bernstein recorded his famously beloved Tristan und Isolde with Hildegard Behrens as his specially chosen Isolde.

The other winners represented South Korea, England and France.
