Behrens Family at the Met
The Hildegard Behrens Foundation got a wonderful surprise visit from Ms. Behrens’ family last summer when her son Philip, a Foundation Advisory Board Member, brought his daughter Maria and son Tony to New York for a short vacation. It was a most auspicious visit, coinciding with the Foundation’s grant of the 2015 Hildegard Behrens Foundation Humanitarian Award to the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, in commemoration of the soprano’s 5th death anniversary.
The MET’s Artistic Administrator, Jonathan Friend, Hildegard Behrens Foundation Chairman Dr. Gaston Ormazabal, and Advisory Board Members Mary Gene Sondericker and Ken Noda (Faculty Member of the Lindemann Program and Musical Assistant to MET Artistic Director, Maestro James Levine) met with the family at the opera house which was Ms. Behrens’ artistic home for many years. A highlight of the visit was a private tour of the MET, including the Portraits Gallery where a portrait of Ms. Behrens as Brünnhilde prominently hangs (see photo above). Check out the Gallery for more photos of the visit.
