HILDEGARD BEHRENS FOUNDATION
~helping young artists reach their true artistic and humanitarian potential~
2015 AWARDEES
In commemoration of Ms. Behrens 78th birth anniversary on 9 February 2015, Hildegard Behrens Foundation Chairman Dr. Gaston Ormazabal announced the names of the artists who will be the beneficiaries of the 2015 Humanitarian Awards given to the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and the Youth Orchestra of the Americas’ Global Leaders Program. It will be recalled that the recipient organizations were announced last year on the 5th anniversary of Ms. Behrens’ passing in a simple ceremony held at the Metropolitan Opera that coincided with the visit to New York City of Ms. Behrens son and Advisory Board Member, Philip Behrens and his children Maria and Tony.
The Lindemann Program has chosen the up-and-coming lyric soprano YING FANG who made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the 2013-2014 season. The China-born soprano has received some of the most coveted awards given to young singers and has been hailed as “the most gifted Chinese soprano of her generation” (Ningbo Daily).

The Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA) has selected clarinetist JULIAN HERNANDEZ of San Juan, Puerto Rico and violinist ANDRÉ ROBLES FIELD of San José, Costa Rica to receive the Hildegard Behrens Foundation Award which will make it possible for them to participate in the YOA Global Leaders Program. The Program is a scholarship-based leadership and social entrepreneurship course offered annually to a select group of exceptional musicians. It consists of a year-long course that combines unique on-site leadership development in diverse international settings with remote classroom training guided by a pioneering faculty. Participants are taught how to become cultural entrepreneurs, mentors, teaching artists, advocates, performers, administrators, and fundraisers. By preparing young musical leaders to build and guide the social music initiatives of tomorrow, YOA’s Global Leaders Program seeks to secure the future of the global youth orchestra movement and to enrich the culture of communities worldwide for generations to come.

The Hildegard Behrens Foundation, through the New York-based Gabriela Mistral Foundation, awarded the Chilean Chapter of the National Museum of Women in the Arts a donation in support of the First Prize of the 2014 Lyric Voices Contest “Women to Listen to”.
