What the critics have started to say:

“Making a big impression in a tiny role was Alexey Lavrov, a baritone in the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, who brought a rich voice and magnetic presence to the often-overlooked Prince Yamadori.” - New York Observer

“Also impressive in costume and voice: Alexey Lavrov as the conceited Yamadori.”
- superconductor.blogspot.com

“A first-year member of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, Lavrov, 27, demonstrated that it is only a matter of time before he commands principal baritone roles on the world’s leading opera stages. Displaying a rich, sizable voice and relaxed, suave demeanor, he strode the Gusman Concert Hall stage, enacting the characters from the operatic snippets on the program’s first half. With the charisma and good looks of a movie star, Lavrov turned each of the operatic excepts into a mini-drama.” - SouthFloridaClassicalReview.com

“Alexei Lavrov too brought a lieder singer’s sensibility to the role of Schaunard, and the Russian baritone, a graduate of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist program, proved himself a nimble dancer and physical comedian.”
