The GERDA LISSNER FOUNDATION recently announced the 2014 winners of its annual LISSNER VOCAL COMPETITION. The TOP PRIZE, which carries a $15,000 cash award went to MARIO CHANG, 2013 Hildegard Behrens Foundation and one of 7 FIRST PRIZES of $10,000 each went to 2014 awardee, baritone ALEXEY LAVROV.

The Gerda Lissner Foundation was created by Mrs. Lissner, a Metropolitan Opera subscriber for 77 years, to provide young opera singers with the financial support they need to pursue their craft and excel in the world of opera. The Foundation holds an Annual International Vocal Competition in New York City that is open to men and women 21 to 35 years old, regardless of nationality. A special Wagnerian Division exists within the competition, with an age range of 30-40 years old. The competition is the organization’s way of providing the encouragement and assistance young artists need toward achieving their goals in opera and ensuring the continuation of this demanding art form.

The 2014 competition took place at the Liederkranz Foundation, Inc. in New York City.

CONGRATULATIONS, MARIO AND ALEXEY!
