Q1. What would you call a boy who could play Ravel's Piano Concerto in G at age 9?
A1. Child Prodigy! (aka Jean-Yves Thibaudet)

Q2. And what would you call a boy who could sing all of Schubert's Die Winterreise at age 6?
A2. Child Prodigy???

Sure, why not?

And by the way, his name is...

Matthias Goerne

and he's not a little boy anymore - he's thirty-something now. That's him on the left. And in the past few years he's been all over the Western world singing lieder and those who've heard him always ask for more.

What an extraordinarily beautiful voice! they all sigh in wonderment. And always at the end of the show they line up to meet him. If you haven't guessed yet, he's German. And a baritone. He has made a name for himself, especially in Europe (you better believe it -- just look at his newest CD -Vladimir Ashkenazy on the piano, and guess who's signed up to accompany him on his recital tours - Alfred Brendel!). In the beginnning in America, his recitals were held in smaller halls. But no longer.

We've heard him sing the clip you just heard and all 16 songs from that song cycle called... oh, why don't you just click HERE to find out (or go BACK to listen to the clip just one more time)... and be enraptured like we were.
